- Veteran shot-stopper commits to building successful future with Revs
U.S. international Matt Turner has returned to the New England Revolution on loan from Olympique Lyon through June 2026, following his transfer from Nottingham Forest to the French club. The 31-year-old goalkeeper expressed his excitement about reuniting with the club where he made his professional debut in 2016. Turner’s message to supporters conveyed his enthusiasm for being back at Gillette Stadium, back in Boston, and reconnecting with the fans.
“Hey Revs fans, it’s Matt Turner here,” Turner said on the club’s official social media channels. “Just want to say how excited I am to get back to Gillette Stadium, get back to Foxboro and the city of Boston, and reconnect with you all. I was obviously there a few short weeks ago, and the love I felt, the love my family felt, it was truly something special, and all that really feels like home to us.”u0026nbsp;
Turner was a fan favorite during his six years at the club, getting into contention for the U.S. national team’s starting goalkeeper position due to his strong performances. He would leave to join Arsenal as the club’s backup goalkeeper in 2022. The goalkeeper is looking to get back to his best in New England.u0026nbsp;
“So we’re really looking forward to getting back to the city, back to New England, and building something special,” he said. “This is the jersey I wore in my debut away at the Philadelphia Union back in 2018 and it’s crazy, I think seven years later all those ups and downs, I’ll be coming back to Foxboro. So, like I said, it really feels like home.
“I don’t take this responsibility lightly; it’s something that we’ve thought long and hard about, and it’s the best situation for us and our family. We look forward to building something together, and you know, giving our fans something that they can be proud of in the future. So I can’t wait to see you all back at Gillette.Let’s go Revs.”

Turner’s return represents a significant homecoming for the goalkeeper who spent six formative years with New England where he made 135 appearances during his first spell with the club. He then left for Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace (loan), and now Lyon. This move should give him the starting minutes he has struggled for over the past two years.u0026nbsp;
The New England Revolution currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference, 10 points outside the final playoff position. They host D.C. United next on Aug. 9 and then welcome LAFC to Gillette Stadium on Aug. 16.
