Mbappe’s move to on a free transfer last summer riled plenty of PSG fans, leading to abuse of the striker in the stands at the Parc des Princes. Without him, though, Enrique’s side ascended to a new level in 2024-25, and won the Champions League for the first time in their history.

During his time in Paris, Mbappe won six times, and scored 256 goals in 308 games to become the club’s record goalscorer. Cisse has now called for the PSG fans to show the 26-year-old more “respect”, even if he could never get over the line in Europe.

Former and striker Cisse said on The Bridge: “We must savour the victory rather than say ‘Kylian was not there, we won’ and try to taunt him. A Champions League is a long-term task. thanked Thiago Silva… All these people have made Paris grow. Kylian is one of them.”

He added: “There are the slightly smarter fans and fans who ignore all this and who will leave Kylian alone. What Kylian did for PSG is big. That has to be respected.”

Mbappe did not have a happy reunion with PSG when coming up against his former club with Real Madrid in the Club semi-finals. Real suffered a chastening 4-0 defeat to the Ligue 1 giants and Mbappe barely got a sniff of goal. Xabi Alonso’s side will hope to bounce back when they kick off their new La Liga campaign against on August 19.
