- Fenerbahce agree €9m deal for Brown
- Milan hijack transfer amid Hernandez replacement search
- Player yet to make final decision amid interest
Fenerbahce have agreed a fee of around €9 million (£8m/$10m) with Belgian side Gent for 23-year-old left-back Brown, according to Sacha Tavolieri. The English defender has accepted a four-year contract with the Turkish side, but the move has stalled following last-minute interest from Milan. The Rossoneri’s sporting director Igli Tare held direct talks with Brown on Sunday, expressing the club’s intent to pursue him as a replacement for Theo Hernandez.
Milan are actively searching for a new left-back after sanctioning Hernandez’s €25m (£21m/$27m) move to Al-Hilal. Brown has now emerged as one of three options on their shortlist. Fenerbahce, now under the management of Jose Mourinho, are awaiting Brown’s final decision while the Italian club prepare to make a formal offer.
Brown featured in 46 matches across all competitions for Gent last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists. A former Derby County academy player, he also played for England‘s U20 team, scoring once in two appearances.
Milan are expected to finalise their decision on pursuing Brown ahead of their pre-season fixtures. They face Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds, Chelsea and Perth Glory before opening their competitive campaign against Bari in the Coppa Italia on August 17. Should they opt out of signing Brown, alternatives from within Italy and the Bundesliga remain on their radar.
