- Rami explains viral rant aimed at Barcelona‘s Yamal
- Claims insult was misunderstood and not personal attack
- Concerned about young star’s attitude, not football ability
Rami launched into a heated tirade against Yamal during a Twitch livestream, where he criticised the 18-year-old Barcelona star’s attitude and lifestyle. He shockingly included an X-rated comment about the winger’s mother that sparked backlash online. Rami has since clarified on Instagram that his words were not meant to insult Yamal’s mother or family.
On Instagram, Rami claimed that his rant had been misunderstood, as he wrote: “Woke up this morning, went to lay down my log… And I discover that I’m in the middle of bad buzz!
“Therefore, I clarify, because it was obviously misunderstood: I was not talking about footballer Lamine Yamal, nor his talent (which is huge, nothing to say about that), but some recent attitudes, which in my opinion, suggest a somewhat rocky future if they keep it up like that.
“And of course, it was a metaphor (certain clumsy) and in no way an insult to his mother or family.
“In short, I still wish him to put his head back on the straight, because he has the potential to mark his era… other than with buzz like that. Ok, back to my coffee.
“PS: A little word for those pseudo-media that take sentences out of context… this has become a classic. But it proves above all that they have absolutely nothing to sell, no one of quality to talk about football or real topics, so of course, they come to my house to scratch. Love to you, too.”
Yamal is one of world football’s brightest young stars, playing a key role in Barcelona’s domestic treble-winning season and Spain‘s Euro 2024 triumph. Rami’s comments divided opinion, with many defending Yamal while others questioned his public image. There has been a lot of criticism over his off-the-field behaviour, with the La Roja star’s 18th birthday party drawing a lot of scrutiny.
The Barcelona superstar has yet to respond publicly to the criticism or Rami’s clarification, and is highly unlikely to do so. The Catalan side are currently preparing for the new La Liga star with their star man, who remains a favourite for the Ballon d’Or shortlist. Rami, meanwhile, may face further scrutiny over his remarks, despite his attempt to walk them back.
