- Magpies want England international
- Gallagher rated at £36m ($49m)
- A popular figure in Madrid
Per Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle are considering a summer move to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Gallagher, who is valued at £36m by the Rojiblancos. The ex-Chelsea midfielder only moved to Madrid last summer, and has made 50 appearances for the club.
Per the report, Gallagher is popular at the club and they would like him to stay, but he made just 19 La Liga starts last season, and he is said to be minded to potentially move ahead of the 2026 World Cup as he bids to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans. He has won 22 caps for England but was not in Tuchel’s first squad.
Gallagher, of course, has plenty of experience in the Premier League, having made 136 appearances in the competition for Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and West Brom.
Newcastle have actually scheduled a pre-season friendly against Atletico in August, and have a good working history with the Spanish club having done business before involving Kieran Trippier, Javier Manquillo, and Jesus Gamez.
