Arsenal dealt with a huge injury blow as Riccardo Calafiori limped off the pitch at the start of the second half against Newcastle United. The Italian defender was sidelined with multiple injuries in the 2024-25 campaign now even before the new started, he picked up yet another knock. Despite Calafiori's injury scare, the Gunners registered a 3-2 win.

The Gunners came back from behind to register a closely-fought 3-2 win over Newcastle in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Sunday. Magpies’ new signing Anthony Elanga handed his team an early lead but Arsenal bounced back in style with Mikel Merino scoring the equaliser just past the half-hour mark and then Alex Murphy’s own goal put them in front. Jacob Murphy then equalised for Newcastle but captain Martin Odegaard netted the winning goal from the penalty spot towards the end of the game.

Despite the victory, Arteta will sweat over Calafiori’s condition as he limped off the pitch and headed straight to the tunnel just minutes after the action resumed in the second half, as Jakub Kiwior replaced the Italian.

New signing Viktor Gyokeres was present at the Singapore Stadium as he watched his new team-mates live in action, although the Swedish striker is still not ready to make his debut for the Gunners.

The Gunners will next face arch-rivals in their second pre-season friendly of the Asia tour at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong.
