- Calafiori limped off the pitch against Newcastle
- Fresh injury blow for Arsenal
- Gunners beat Newcastle 3-2
The Gunners came back from behind to register a closely-fought 3-2 win over Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Sunday. Magpies’ new signing Anthony Elanga handed his team an early lead but Arsenal bounced back in style with Mikel Merino scoring the equaliser just past the half-hour mark and then Alex Murphy’s own goal put them in front. Jacob Murphy then equalised for Newcastle but captain Martin Odegaard netted the winning goal from the penalty spot towards the end of the game.
Despite the victory, Arteta will sweat over Calafiori’s condition as he limped off the pitch and headed straight to the tunnel just minutes after the action resumed in the second half, as Jakub Kiwior replaced the Italian.

New signing Viktor Gyokeres was present at the Singapore National Stadium as he watched his new team-mates live in action, although the Swedish striker is still not ready to make his debut for the Gunners.
The Gunners will next face arch-rivals Tottenham in their second pre-season friendly of the Asia tour at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong.
