- Son swaps Spurs for LAFC
- Reunites with old team-mate Lloris
- Keeper thrilled to be together again
Son ended a 10-year spell at Tottenhamwhen he signed for LAFC earlier this week. The South Korean international is stepping into unfamiliar territory with this transfer but there will be some familiarity as ex-Spurs keeper Lloris, who played with him for more than eight years at the north London team, is his team-mate again. The former فرنسا international is expecting a “big impact” from the 33-year-old, while being delighted to see him again.
He told reporters on Friday: “It’s amazing to be together again. It’s a new chapter with a different jersey, but with the same ambition, same motivation … he’s a big competitor. He was the captain of Spurs for the last two years. He’s the captain of his وطني team.
“He spent 10 years at Spurs, he did everything that he could, he won the الدوري الأوروبي last season. He achieved so much in the الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز, in terms of stats, in terms of image, he’s well respected all around the world. I understand that you arrive at one stage in your career, you need a new target, a new objective.
“Seeing him coming to the MLS, it’s great, you know, for the league, great for the city, great for the club, also great for our team because he’s a kind of example. There’s plenty of things to learn from him … so I expect him to have a really big impact.”
Son, who leaves توتنهام as an all-time great after helping them win the Europa League, comes to LAFC with a big reputation. The versatile forward says he wants to help Lloris’ team win trophies, and he could help them do that. They currently sit sixth in the Western Conference of الدوري الأمريكي لكرة القدم, so they will need to up their game if they want to come away with silverware this season.
Son, who has travelled with his new team and is eligible to play in LAFC’s trip to Chicago Fire on Saturday night, could make his MLS debut this weekend, or if not, away at ثورة نيو إنجلاند in just over a week.
