Bayer Leverkusen have reacted to Jeremie Frimpong's first goal for Liverpool after the Dutchman's floated cross found the back of the net.

Making his competitive debut for the club, Frimpong was slipped through down the right-wing by Dominik Szoboszlai and chipped the ball into the penalty area. The cross, which looped over Dean Henderson in the Palace net, floated into the bottom left corner and put the Reds 2-1 up. Frimpong, who joined from the German club in the summer, will likely try and claim it and his former side were more than happy to indulge.

Posting on X, the German side tweeted: “You know Jeremie Frimpong definitely meant that😉.”

Whether Frimpong meant it or not, the goal that put the Reds ahead was pegged back by Ismaila Sarr. The Eagles winger prodded home off the post from close range to level the scores and send the game to penalties. Mohamed Salah blazed over, Alexis Mac Allister had his effort saved and Palace missed just once to win the shootout 3-2. After their FA Cup victory over at the end of last season, it marked yet another special Wembley day for Eagles fans.

After a disappointing end to a promising debut, Frimpong will now look forward to making his first start for the Reds. Liverpool host on Friday night as they kick off their Premier League defence.
