The match continued back-and-forth with NEC scoring two more times, but PSV held on for a 5-3 win with goals from Myron Boadu and Joey Veerman.

Following his brace against NEC, Pepi praised the opposition for being a tough team to face on the day but admitted to being proud of the Boeren for getting the win.

“I think it was a great game to watch, you know, just to be part of the game. I think it was a difficult team, of course, but at the end of the day, we got the win, so very happy about that,” Pepi told ‘s official YouTube channel.

When asked about NEC’s style of play and how tough it was to face them, Pepi revealed that PSV did well to deal with them and get the win.

“Yeah, they play, for sure, in a special way. You know, I think there’s a small amount of teams that play the way they play, but you know, it’s very effective. But at the end of the day, they’re not there yet, and we got the win,” Pepi said.

Pepi’s USMNT teammate Sergino Dest was involved in the match, with the fullback, notching an assist along with one key pass and one completed dribble in attack while making three tackles on the other end.

PSV Eindhoven will now turn their attention to the UEFA campaign, with a opening group stage match against Union Saint-Gilloise on Sept. 15.
