- Bayern keen on signing Diaz from Liverpool
- Kompany talked to the player over a video call
- Barcelona also remain in the race
Sport Bild has revealed that Bayern head coach Kompany has already had a video call with Diaz. The Colombian has already given his commitment to a transfer and is said to have informed Liverpool of his wish. The Reds have known for months that Diaz wants to leave the club this summer despite his contract running until 2027.
Bayern’s supervisory board initially set a maximum amount that should not be exceeded in a potential transfer of Diaz: €60 million (£52m/$70m) plus bonus payments. The first offer, which Liverpool reportedly rejected last week, was allegedly €52m (£45m/$60m). According to consistent reports, Bayern went over their own limit as they tabled a €67.5m (£58m/$79m) bid on Tuesday, but this offer was also rejected by Liverpool.
Diaz is considered Bayern’s top target for the wing after they failed to sign Nico Williams, who extended his contract with Athletic Bilbao, and are also likely to come away empty-handed with Bradley Barcola as باريس سان جيرمان are unwilling to let him go. Reports earlier this month suggested that the Bavarians would be happy to offer the Colombian international a contract until 2029 or 2030.
Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig is also being discussed at Bayern, with sporting director Max Eberl and coach Kompany said to be particularly impressed by the 22-year-old Dutchman. However, according to Sport Bild Simons is not currently a priority, but merely an alternative should Die Roten fail to sign their top transfer targets in Diaz and Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade. What’s more, Gabriel Martinelli’s name has also been speculated as a potential alternative for the left wing, with the Arsenal star apparently not among the names Mikel Arteta would trust to form his side’s core next season.
Barcelona also continue to remain in the hunt to acquire Diaz’s services. Howver, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein revealed on Tuesday that the الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز champions value Diaz at over €100m (£86.6m/$116m).
