Newcastle have announced the arrival of midfielder Nobbs, who has signed for the club after her contract with Aston Villa expired. The 32-year-old arrives as the record holder for most appearances ever with 208 and will add much needed experience to a Magpies squad trying to reach the top flight.

Newcastle finished fifth in the Women’s 2 last season after their promotion from the third tier and more investment is pouring in as the club attempts to make the side a force in England.

Nobbs said: “I think they are a very ambitious club and, speaking to everyone, the goal is to get promoted and push women’s football in the North East. I want to be part of that.

“I’ve always had a winning mentality, and it’s the same mentality here, every game is like a cup final. I want to be part of a successful club that push to the next level.”

Nobbs enjoyed great success with Arsenal, winning the WSL title and FA Women’s Cup three and four times each respectively. She was also part of the England squad that came second at the 2023 , having been absent from the Euro 2022 triumph due to a knee ligament strain.

Newcastle are likely to announce more arrivals over the summer, with the next potentially being Republic of Ireland defender Aoife Mannion. The 29-year-old is expected to move to Tyneside having left Manchester upon the expiry of her contract.
