Everton want to tie their long-standing No 1 stopper Pickford down to another long-term deal, according to the BBC. Pickford has earned cult-hero status since his arrival from in 2017, for a then-record £30 million ($40.5m). And the Merseysiders want the 31-year-old to extend his stay even further – potentially up to his retirement.

It’s been a rollercoaster eight years for Pickford at Everton, he’s worked under nine managers – including caretakers – and seen a change of ownership. Allied to the Toffees’ flirtations with relegation, it has certainly not been plain sailing. But David Moyes has returned andthey’ve enjoyed two wins at the brand new Hill Dickinson stadium.

There’s a dispute over who the most-expensive British goalkeeper is. claim recently paid £31 million, pus add-ons and included a sell-on clause for James Trafford, which would eclipse the £30m the Toffees paid for Pickford. But City claim they paid a mere £27m for Trafford.

Pickford has a decision to make. As a 31-year-old goalkeeper he may still have one big transfer option available to him. But it will be a wrench to leave Everton after eight years.
