- Yamal has risen to worldwide stardom
- Ex-France star annoyed by Barca star
- Launched scathing attack on the teenager
Yamal has rocketed to worldwide fame and respect for his blistering performances for club and country. After playing a key role in Spain‘s Euro 2024 success, he enjoyed a stellar season as Barcelona claimed the domestic treble and is being touted as a possible Ballon d’Or winner this year. In the 2024-25 season, Yamal played 55 official matches, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists across all competitions for the Blaugrana.
The love for the 18-year-old is not universal, though, as 2018 World Cup winner Rami went on a rant about him, including an attack on the player’s mother as he expressed his frustration.
“It’s been two months, and as a human being, I can’t stand him anymore. That’s clear. I don’t give a damn, guys. If some people are happy, unhappy, Barca fans, Lamine Yamal fans… I don’t give a damn. I’m telling you the truth. Football-wise, I’ve got nothing to say. He’s a cracker and he’ll definitely win Ballons d’Or, European Cups and everything else you want. But as a human being, f*ck your mother. That’s clear,” said the former Marseille player said to Instant Foot.
Rami’s frustration with Yamal appears to stem from seeing the teenager shake hands with Cristiano Ronaldo during the Nations League final between Spain and Portugal, which was won by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“The way he shook Cristiano Ronaldo’s hand also annoyed me. That’s how it started. I didn’t like the videos he made afterwards where he talked about him,” added the former French international.
The Frenchman also mentions the young Spaniard’s dress sense, his ostentatious style, nightlife behaviour and reported relationships with older women.
“Seeing him doing his crazy thing with his shorts down, I taught you why guys do that and where it comes from. I’ll say it again, the whole thing with the shorts down comes from prisons in the United States and Mexico, it was the guy who wanted to get ‘f*cked’. But there are things that bother me. He’s throwing parties and people are already talking about them. Just wait, you son of a bitch. He shows up, takes the number 10 spot and puts on big bling with big diamonds. He thinks he’s American. It’s annoying,” Rami said angrily.
While Rami rants about Yamal, the Ballon d’Or candidate is in pre-season training as Barcelona look to prepare to defend their La Liga title and aim to battle for the Champions League crown this season after they secured La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana trophies last season. What makes the upcoming season special is that Yamal officially took on the iconic No. 10 jersey. This prestigious number, previously worn by club legends like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Diego Maradona, signifies the club’s immense faith in the young talent. Yamal said he aims to forge his own path while honouring the legacy associated with the shirt.
