- Rashford has left Man Utd for برشلونة
- Reflected on previous managers
- Reveals frustrations under Mourinho
Rashford has worked with some of the biggest names in management during his career at Manchester متحد. The forward was in the academy system under the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson and went on to feature under Louis van Gaal, Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjar, Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Rashford is now working under another demanding manager in Hansi Flick after sealing a season-long loan move to Barcelona. The German’s teams are known for their intensity, with Rashford already having admitted he’s found pre-season “difficult” in Catalunya. The attacker has now been asked about the most influential managers he’s worked with and spoke about life under Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast: “Influential? I’d probably say [Louis] Van Gaal, Jose [Mourinho], and Ole [Gunnar Solskjær]. I’ve had so many different managers, so it’s impossible to compare them all. But when you are a developing player, like at a young age, up until Jose, I’d never had a manager so fixated on winning before him.
“[Van Gaal] was fixated on winning, but he wanted to play a beautiful style of football. Jose doesn’t care – if you win, you win. You move on to the next game. At the beginning, I was angry all the time. But because we’ve won, and he’s just a winner, you start to understand him.
“He doesn’t bring up the points that were missing from the last game if we’ve won, but when we lose, he points them out. After a few months, I started to respect that approach, and I reaped the rewards with him as a coach.”
Barcelona open up the defence of their La Liga title on Saturday against Real Mallorca. Rashford will be hoping to be involved but is still waiting to be registered by Barca in time for the game.
