Son Heung-Min’s move to نادي لوس أنجلوس لكرة القدم is making headlines not only for shattering MLS transfer records, but also for the respect he’s shown toward those who built the club’s legacy. The former Tottenham star spoke warmly about Carlos Vela, calling the Mexican forward an inspiration and setting his own sights on leaving a similar mark in Los Angeles.
The South Korean recalled facing Vela in the past and praised his impact: “Honestly, I’m not at his level yet. Carlos is incredible – a fantastic player. What he did for this team makes him a true legend. When my time here ends, I want people to remember me as someone who gave everything for this club. That’s why I’m here – to earn a place among those names.”
Vela left LAFC having played 189 matches, scoring 93 goals and delivering 59 assists. His honors include two Supporters’ Shields, an MLS Cup, and the 2019 MVP award.
LAFC paid a fee of nearly $26.5 million to sign Son, breaking the $22 million record Atlanta متحد set last winter for Emmanuel Latte Lath. The 32-year-old’s deal – which runs through 2027 with an option through 2029 – comes in the role of a Designated Player in MLS.
Son could make his debut on Saturday when LAFC visits Chicago Fire.
