The NWSL returned after the month-long international break and the action did not disappoint. From Jess Fishlock’s powerful strike to give Seattle Reign their first win in the second half of the season, to Trinity Rodman’s grand return, it was a weekend to remember.

Going into the final few months of the season, teams such as the Utah Royals and Chicago Stars are tasked with climbing their way back up the standings. On the other hand, for the Kansas City Current, it’s a case of the rich getting richer – they keep getting better, and added U.S. Soccer’s Young Female Player of the Year, Ally Sentnor to an already potent lineup.

So, who’s leading the pack, and who’s falling short of expectations? INDIVISA presents the latest 2025 NWSL Power Rankings.

Prior Ranking: 14

Result: Drew 1-1

Ramifications: Utah sent Ally Sentnor to Kansas City Current in a blockbuster trade that flipped the NWSL upside down over the weekend, but against the Pride, Utah hung on, even without Sentnor. The Royals picked up one point against the Pride for their third draw of the season. The Royals still sit in last place in the league standings with just one win.

Prior Ranking: 13

Result: Drew Gotham FC 1-1

Ramifications: Without Ally Schlegel’s second-half equalizer, it wasn’t looking good for Chicago against Gotham. Chicago were lucky that Gotham were without Esther Gonzalez, so they didn’t have to deal with her attacking presence. However the Stars still struggled to pick up three points.

Prior Ranking: 12

Result: Drew 2-2

Ramifications: ال played Bay FC to a 2-2 result, and Jane Campbell had a strong performance in net, making five saves. The Dash are far from a spot in playoffs, and will need to pick up points in the upcoming games to secure a playoff spot.

Prior Ranking: 11

Result: Drew Houston Dash 2-2

Ramifications: Bay FC scored first against the Dash, but twice conceded a goal after scoring one. Bay FC have a lot of the right pieces to make for a successful season, however will need to start piecing together more wins if they want a spot in playoffs.

Prior Ranking: 10

Result: Lost to Seattle Reign 2-0

Ramifications: Angel City couldn’t find an answer for Seattle, who came out soaring against the Los Angeles side. Despite having more chances on goal, Angel City are in search of a win after losing five of their last six matches.

Prior Ranking: 8

Result: Drew San Diego Wave 0-0

Ramifications: The North Carolina Courage hung on agains the Wave, but didn’t manage to get much going offensively. The Courage are just below the playoff line in ninth and will need to have a strong second half of the season to find their way into postseason position.

Prior Ranking: 6

Result: Lost to Kansas City Current 2-0

Ramifications: It’s a tough task to face the Current after a month-long break, and unfortunately for , that was the challenge. They kept the Current off the scoreboard until late into the second half, but after that Temwa Chawinga turned on the jets and Louisville couldn’t find an answer.

Prior Ranking: 7

Result: Lost to Washington Spirit 2-1

Ramifications: The Thorns played even against the Spirit, but couldn’t stop Rodman from sealing the game. The Thorns were excellent in the midfield through Jessie Flemming and Olivia Moultrie, and will look to continue to piece together wins as they sit in sixth place in the league standings.

Prior Ranking: 9

Result: Beat Angel City 2-0

Ramifications: Seattle entered the second half of the NWSL season as the team to watch. With some major summer , such as Mia Fishel, joining the squad, and Sofia Huerta returning, this team was well-positioned. Laura Harvey’s squad defeated Angel City and did so dominantly, thanks to a powerful finish from Jess Fishlock and then an own-goal late.

Prior Ranking: 2

Result: Drew Chicago Stars 1-1

Ramifications: Gotham FC were without Golden Boot leader Esther Gonzalez, and without her chipping in goals, the NJ/NY side struggled to get much cooking offensively. Luckily, they did have Ann-Katrin Berger in goal, and she helped keep Chicago to just one goal. It was a fairly one-sided game with Chicago actually outshooting Gotham 13-6.

Prior Ranking: 5

Result: Drew Utah Royals 1-1

Ramifications: A somewhat strange result for the Pride, who have been consistently good all season. The Pride went down one goal in just the fourth minute, but were later on saved by Prisca Chilufya’s equalizer off the bench. Granted, the Pride were without their Brazilian powerhouses, and that definitely showed.

Prior Ranking: 3

Result: Drew North Carolina Courage 0-0

Ramifications: The San Diego Wave didn’t look better or worse over the weekend, and that’s likely because they were playing a very even matched side, the North Carolina Courage. The Wave did manage to get off 18 shots against the Courage, but only two were on target.

Prior Ranking: 4

Result: Beat 2-1

Ramifications: The Washington Spirit are another team that have returned better after the break – and that’s largely because of Trinity Rodman. After being out with injury for much of the first half of the season, Rodman subbed into the match on Sunday. It didn’t take long to find her stride, as she and ended up scoring the stoppage-time thriller to push the Spirit past the Thorns.

Prior Ranking: 1

Result: Beat Racing Louisville 2-0

Ramifications: The Current didn’t miss a beat during the break, and came back soaring, defeating Racing Louisville on the road. Moreover, Kansas City acquired young midfield sensation Ally Sentnor, further strengthening their already formidable lineup. The USWNT rising star will join the Current from the Utah Royals. The Current are in first place overall with a 12-2-0 record.
