- Reynolds and McElhenney eyeing PL promotion
- Owners have overseen three successive promotions
- Williamson backs club to at least reach play-offs
Williamson has revealed to The Telegraph that Reynolds and McElhenney have set their sights high at ريكسهام this season. After three successive promotions, the club are now just one more away from the الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز promised land. At a summer strategy meeting, Williamson says he presented potential budgets for survival in the بطولة, a mid-table finish, and “to be competitive”. The two Hollywood owners instead wanted to know how much they would have to invest to secure a top-two finish and automatic promotion.
Wrexham have invested heavily in the summer, bringing in eight first-team players at a combined cost of over £10 million ($13.5m) Perhaps their most headline-grabbing addition has beenformer إنجلترا international Conor Coady, who brings with him a wealth of experience to North ويلز. Wrexham lost their first game of the season, however, going down 2-1 against Southampton thanks to two late goals from the Saints.
Williamson revealedthat he, Reynolds and McElhenney ultimately opted to aim for “being competitive” in the Championship, but he believes a play-off triumph could be on the cards.
He said: “If we can find ourselves in that position towards the back end of the season, I give us a very good shot of being in the play-offs. And then, ultimately, if we’re in the play-offs, I give us a very good shot of getting promoted just because of who we are and what we are and the DNA, the resilience, and what it means to this town and for the squad.”
Wrexham play West Brom in their next Championship clash this weekend. They will be desperate to pick up their first points of the campaign.
