- Wrexham want to expand SToK Cae Ras
- Have applied to the City Borough Council
- Capacity will be bumped to 18,000
With the three existing stands already in place, the installation of these additional seats would see the SToK Cae Ras expand to accommodate just over 18,000 fans. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the matchday atmosphere while making the venue suitable for high-profile fixtures, including international competitions.
Alongside increasing capacity, Wrexham’s leadership is determined to ensure the project aligns with modern environmental standards. The newly submitted plans include provisions for photovoltaic panels (PVs) to be installed on the Kop Stand’s roof. These solar panels are intended to contribute to the stadium’s energy efficiency, supporting the club’s broader sustainability goals.
Michael Williamson, the Chief Executive Officer of Wrexham AFC, emphasised the club’s intention to preserve and amplify the heritage of the SToK Cae Ras while pushing the stadium into a new era. He said: “When we submitted the revised designs for the new Kop Stand earlier this year, the intention was always to future proof the STōK Cae Ras so that it could hold international matches for many years to come, thus remaining true to its legacy as the oldest international ground still in use.n
“With the additional seats that were planned into the revised designs, we intend to maximise the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop a new and iconic Kop Stand that can accommodate a maximum number of fans for years to come.“

While attention is currently focused on structural plans and planning permissions, the football action is also set to resume shortly. Wrexham will begin their Championship campaign on August 9 with a tough opener against Southampton.
