- Liverpool lose key winger after contract talks broke down
Diaz has officially joined Bayern Munich in a €75 million deal after three-and-a-half years at Liverpool. The winger signed a four-year contract with wages reportedly worth €14 million annually (~£250k-per-week) following failed contract renewal talks at Anfield. His departure comes just weeks after the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, adding emotional weight to his farewell.
On Instagram, Salah wrote: “Your energy, drive, and passion on the pitch have left a mark that won’t be forgotten. We were truly lucky to have you at Liverpool, and it’s been an honour to share part of your journey and success story.
“As a teammate, you were more than reliable — you were inspiring. As a friend, even more so.
“We all saw the strength it took to keep going through the tough times off the pitch. What you went through would’ve broken most, but you came back strong and gave everything for the club. That kind of resilience sets an example for others and earns nothing but respect.
“Wishing you all the best for what’s next, Lucho. Keep making your people proud.”
Diaz leaves Liverpool having made 148 appearances and scored 41 goals in all competitions. He helped the Reds lift four trophies, including the الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز and FA Cup. His departure is not just a sporting loss, but an emotional one for teammates still reeling from Jota’s death.
Bayern Munich will hope Diaz injects pace and creativity into their frontline under Vincent Kompany. Liverpool, meanwhile, are not looking for a suitable replacement for the Colombian as they already have new signings like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike to fulfil the role if needed. For Salah and the rest of the squad, Diaz’s departure marks the end of a memorable chapter.
