- Involved in scary accident late in 2024
- Returned to international action with جامايكا
- Faces big decision on what happens next
Experienced frontman Antonio cheated death in early December 2024 when having to be cut out of a vehicle that collided with a tree. He was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery on serious leg fractures.
Questions were asked of whether he would be able to play again, but the 35-year-old was able to represent Jamaica at the 2025 كأس الكونكاكاف الذهبية and returned to action at club level when scoring two goals for the Hammers in an U21 pre-season fixture.
That will be his last outing for وست هام, with it revealed that – with his contract having expired in June – the الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز outfit will not be putting fresh terms to a man that has spent 10 years on their books.
West Ham said in a statement on the club’s official website: “Michail will always be a much-loved and respected member of the West Ham متحد family. As has been the case since December, the club will continue to support and assist him in his ongoing rehabilitation, offering him access to training, facilities and medical care if needed.
“Dialogue continues over his future involvement with the club in an alternative capacity – including one that would enable others to benefit from his experience and leadership qualities – and he will forever hold a special place in our 130-year history.
“Everyone at West Ham United would like to sincerely thank Michail for his outstanding, dedicated service in a Claret and Blue shirt over the last ten years. Further recognition of his magnificent contribution will appear across club channels in the coming days and weeks.”
Antonio made 323 appearances for West Ham, scoring 83 goals. He helped them to دوري المؤتمرات glory in 2023 but must now decide whether to remain in east London behind the scenes or prolong his playing career elsewhere.
