- Calhanoglu not leaving Inter
- Chivu played a role in resolving conflict
- President Marotta stamps authority on return
The Inter management, along with coach Cristian Chivu, have played a crucial role in smoothing the feud between Calhanoglu and skipper Lautaro Martinez, and now the Turkey international is preparing a comeback after a dismal 2024-25 season. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport club president Giuseppe Marotta has also informed the media that the midfielder will continue at the club.
Although Calhanoglu wanted to join Galatasaray, he did not attempt to force an exit from Inter. Abdullah Kavukcuha, the vice-president of the Turkish club, met Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio to discuss a possible move. However, it seems that the Super Lig side are more focused on securing Victor Osimhen from Napoli, since he was the league’s top scorer last term, and moreover, Calhaonglu was never a technical requirement but rather looked upon as a statement signing. Hence, the midfielder had to steer his mind back to Inter, where he is considered the team’s ‘Rodri‘, at least by former Italy manager Fabio Capello, who had instructed the club not to take any hasty decision regarding the player.
When confronted by reporters on Tuesday, Marotta said: “Calhanoglu is our player in every respect, so he’ll arrive as soon as possible. As soon as he’s called up.”
The Turkish midfielder is expected to join Inter’s pre-season camp, which is slated to commence on July 26, at Appiano Gentile.
