According to The Athletic Petrovic has been granted permission by the Blues to undergo a medical next week at the Cherries. He spent the 2024–25 season on loan at , ‘s sister club in , which is also owned by the BlueCo group. He featured in 31 matches for the French side, playing a vital role in their seventh-place finish that secured a UEFA spot. His standout displays earned him the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Season award.

Despite his strong performances in , it was made clear to Petrovic upon his return to west London that his long-term future would lie elsewhere. Chelsea had honoured a gentleman’s agreement allowing the 25-year-old to leave if a club met the £25 million asking price, a figure Bournemouth are now ready to match.
