ليفربول made a total of eight new signings in what proved to be a busy summer transfer window for the club, but it was the deals for both Wirtz and Isak which attracted the most attention. And in a new report from صحيفة التايمز the structure of both deals meant the star duo arrived for a staggeringly low combined first payment this summer.
The report states the combined first payments for Wirtz and Isak reached just £51.25m (€59.2m/$69.4m) this summer, with Liverpool set to pay the remainder of the transfer fees in later instalments. Wirtz arrived at Anfield for a guaranteed fee of £100m (€115.5m/$135.5m) with a further £16m (€18.4m/$21.6m) in achievable add-ons, while Isak joined for a British transfer record £125 million (€144.5m/$169.3m) with no add-ons included.
Both players were in action during the recent international break, with Wirtz scoring in ألمانيا‘s 3-1 victory over Northern أيرلندا في كأس العالم qualifying on Sunday. Meanwhile, Isak featured for just 18 minutes as السويد slipped to a surprise 2-0 defeat against Kosovo on Monday.
Wirtz and Isak will both be looking to make an impact when Liverpool return to الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز action against بيرنلي on Sunday. Midfielder Wirtz is still searching for his first goal or assist since joining Arne Slot’s side, while Isak is in line to make his highly-anticipated debut following his fiery departure from Newcastle.
