- Reds eyeing Leoni swoop
- Defender just 18
- An Italy U19 international
Liverpool are interested in signing Parma defender Leoni, per Corriere dello Sport, as the Reds bid to fend off competition from الدوري الإيطالي suitors. Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus are all reported to hold an interest in the teenager, with the Nerazzurri leading the race.
The Reds have made contact to gauge the feasibility of a deal to sign Leoni. The teenager has won seven caps for Italy’s U19 side, and enjoyed a breakthrough season in Serie A last term, playing 17 times in the league. He can operate as both a centre-back and a right-back.
Leoni is said to be intrigued by the prospect of a move to Inter, but it remains to be seen if the Reds will be able to turn his head. Liverpool are embarking on a summer spending spree, adding a clutch of new signings: Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and, most recently, Hugo Ekitike.
Liverpool play Milan on July 26 as they continue their pre-season preparations. Inter are only reported to be able to move for Leoni if they sell players first, so the Reds have some time to weigh an approach.
