- Red Devils are exploring options
- Martinez deal will be difficult
- Belgian ready for new challenge
The Red Devils continue to scour the market when it comes to shot-stopping options. They have invested heavily in Cameroon international Andre Onana, but he has made a number of costly errors across two seasons in England and is currently nursing an injury.
كأس العالم winner Martinez is considered by many to be the No.1 upgrade that متحد need, with the divisive Argentine seemingly open to leaving Aston Villa and taking on a new challenge. The Red Devils are, however, finding it difficult to put a deal in place.
Lammens could be easier to acquire, but he would represent more of a gamble. Royal Antwerp are prepared to part with the 23-year-old, who is said to come with a price tag of between €15 million and €20m (£17m/$23m).
nLammens believes he is ready for a big move, telling Gazet van Antwerpen: “مانشستر يونايتد are one of the best clubs, yes. But you never know. It could also be a different club, or who knows, I might stay here. In any case, I try to keep my feet on the ground. When teams like that come along, I think you’ve earned it.”n
He added: “I certainly have enough confidence in myself. I think the most important thing is that my future team, whenever they arrive, has a plan in place.n
“Ideally, that means playing immediately, but it’s also possible I’ll have to take a step in between. As long as there’s a plan, it doesn’t matter whether I’m ready for the next step or not. Everyone has their own career, their own path. Even if I don’t take the right step right away, I’ll get there.”n
United have been told what they could be getting in Lammens, with Antwerp boss Stef Wils saying: “He has everything a modern goalkeeper needs, and as a young lad, he still has room to grow in a major league. He exudes calm and inspires confidence in his defenders, a plus on high balls.”
The Red Devils are currently taking in a pre-season tour of the United States. Turkish keeper Altay Bayindir played the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 friendly win over West Ham, with Ruben Amorim’s side set to be back in action on Wednesday when taking on Bournemouth.
