came from behind to beat on penalties in the UEFA final on Wednesday evening in , as Spurs surrendered a two-goal lead late in the game.

ال side opened the scoring on 38 minutes as a free-kick was whipped into the box and Lucas Chevalier, on his debut for PSG, first made a superb save from Joao Palhinha by tipping his effort onto the crossbar, before Micky van de Ven pounced to score the rebound.

Almost immediately after the restart, another free-kick was sent into the area by Pedro Porro, and it found Cristian Romero completely unmarked at the back post, and his header slipped through the fingers of Chevalier. Given that he has been signed as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s replacement, an error such as this may have set a few alarm bells ringing on the PSG bench.

On 65 minutes, the French giants thought they had a goal back when Bradley Barcola beat Guglielmo Vicario from close range after the Italian had made an excellent save from Desire Doue, but VAR correctly ruled the goal out for offside.

However, with just six minutes to go, Tottenham began to capitulate as Kang-in Lee pulled a goal back with a superb strike from the edge of the box. And PSG were level in injury time thanks to Goncalo Ramos’ superb headed finish from Ousmane Dembele’s exceptional, whipped cross.

With the scores level at 2-2, the game went straight to penalties. While Dominic Solanke and Rodrigo Bentancur scored, Micky van de Ven saw his spot-kick saved and Mathys Tel missed altogether as PSG won the shootout 4-3, as Nuno Mendes converted the decisive kick.

بالجم rates Spurs’ players from Stadio Friuli…

Guglielmo Vicario (5/10):

Barely had a save to make until he denied Desire Doue excellently at 2-0. Beaten all ends up by Lee’s superb finish and Ramos’ header. Unfortunate but he was also unable to save a single penalty in the shootout.

Pedro Porro (7/10):

Top-class delivery to Romero for the second goal. Wasn’t tested by Doue as much as he might have expected but that is more a sign of how well the Spaniard defended. Did keep Ramos onside before his header.

Cristian Romero (8/10):

Scored Spurs’ second with a fine back-post header, although Chevalier should probably have saved it. Organised well and put his foot in when required.

Kevin Danso (7/10):

Took multiple long throws, and also steamed into PSG’s third more than once. Always willing to put his body on the line, his physicality makes him so difficult to beat, both on the ground and in the air.

Micky van de Ven (7/10):

Scored towards the end of the first half, finishing superbly after Chevalier denied Palhinha from close range. Saw his weak penalty saved, though.

Djed Spence (7/10):

Almost completely shut down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia down his flank, which is no easy task. Beaten by Dembele before he put the ball in for Ramos’ finish.

Rodrigo Bentancur (8/10):

Tidy and composed on the ball throughout. Made a hugely impressive 40-yard dash to make a slide tackle, rather summing up Spurs’ hunger. Scored in the shootout.

Pape Matar Sarr (9/10):

A constant menace for PSG in midfield, pressing and harrying and tackling consistently. Spurs’ best player; he just never stops running.

Joao Palhinha (7/10):

His effort was brilliantly saved by Chevalier before Van de Ven scored. Snapped into challenges when he needed to, anchoring the midfield effectively before his substitution.

Mohammed Kudus (7/10):

Hit the post late in the first half. Twinkle-toed and ran at PSG often, with his solo break leading to the foul that brought Spurs’ first goal; he has immense talent and if Spurs can harness it properly this season, they have a real game-changer on their hands.

(8/10):

Ran himself ragged up front, pressing PSG whenever he could and leading the line with real intent. Brought one good save from Chevalier with a long-range drive. Was booked and replaced with 20 minutes to go after a truly exceptional display.

Archie Gray (5/10):

On for Palhinha. Slotted into the No.6 position but had nothing like the impact of the loanee.

Dominic Solanke (5/10):

Replaced the exceptional Richarlison. Did not have time to carve out a chance and could not replicate the Brazilian’s pressing. Scored in the shootout.

Mathys Tel (4/10):

On for Kudus. Immediately conceded a dangerous free-kick but didn’t get an opportunity to run at PSG. Missed his penalty badly after a stuttering run-up.

Lucas Bergvall (N/A):

On for Sarr in injury time.

Thomas Frank (6/10):

Looked to have nailed it. His tactics had PSG all at sea, as ‘s side simply couldn’t cope with Spurs’ intensity, but as soon as he made substitutions, Tottenham surrendered all control and allowed the French giants back in. Welcome to Spurs, Thomas.
