- First WSL season for London City Lionesses
- Two high profile signings
- High hopes for 2025/26
This double swoop brings serious pedigree to the Lionesses’ squad, ahead of their first-ever season competing in the Women’s الدوري السوبر (they won the Women’s بطولة last season with a total of 43 points from 20 games). Zelem and Kennedy both arrive in إنجلترا من وطني Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) outfit نادي أنجيل سيتي لكرة القدم.
The pair bring bags of experience and will be crucial in helping the Lionesses adapt to top-flight life. Midfielder Zelem captained مانشستر يونايتد for four years and has a Women’s FA Cup medal and 12 England caps to her name to date, while Kennedy is a super-experienced defender with 139 caps for أستراليا and plenty of prior WSL experience with مانشستر سيتي و توتنهام هوتسبير.
Speaking about her new club, Zelem said: “Being the first independent team in the WSL is an amazing achievement, it feels like since I joined the league, the growth in women’s football has been exceptional. I really can’t wait to be a part of this club. Hopefully I can bring a lot of experience, knowledge and some good football to the team.” Kennedy added: “I’m excited to be part of such a historic season for the club. The ambitions of the club and what they want to do – win trophies and titles – as a player that’s what you want to do.”
It’s been a busy summer for London City Lionesses, who are proving to be a super ambitious addition to the WSL. Alongside the signing of Zelem and Kennedy, they’ve also brought in big names like England international Nikita Parris this summer, and supporters will be hoping they can claim some scalps in the English top flight this campaign.
