Furious Forest owner Marinakis is hoping that City will rival Spurs in the transfer race for Gibbs-White, according to talkSPORT. At the end of last season, the England international told Marinakis that he would only leave Forest “for a certain level of club”, and the Greek owner does not believe that Spurs fall into that bracket.
Marinakis is said to be ‘furious’ over Tottenham‘s approach for Gibbs-White, but they haven’t given up hope of securing a transfer for the 25-year-old. Spurs will await the outcome of Forest’s legal challenge before deciding on next steps.
City are unlikely to add another midfielder after signing three players in that position this summer. Pep Guardiola has brought in Ryan Cherki from ليون, Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and 18-year-old Norwegian sensation Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg. It has even been suggested that Guardiola went for Cherki as he believed that the Frenchman would be a cheaper alternative to Gibbs-White.
Gibbs-White was surprisingly left out of the Forest squad that flew to Portugal for a pre-season camp on Monday. However, John Percy of The Telegraph has reported that the midfielder was not included “due to a private and personal matter completely unrelated to football” and it is expected to link up with his team-mates later in the week.
