- Coach Alonso prefers Garcia over Mendy
- Club impressed by former’s Club كأس العالم performances
- Madrid will look to part ways with Frenchman
According to AS Xabi Alonso would prefer to keep Garcia after his impressive spell in the Club World Cup and overall performance in the 2024-25 season. Mendy will be sold as Madrid have already bought Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, relegating the French left-back to third choice.
Under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, Spanish left-back Garcia got the chance to display his skills, owing to Mendy’s constant injuries. The club made the decision regarding Garcia after AC Milan showed interest in the 25-year-old. The Italian side reportedly wanted to sign Garcia on the basis of Luka Modric’s recommendation. He played 54 games for the club last year starting 24 and coming of as a substitute in seven games in La Liga.
Garcia’s agent has denied any claims of his player being in talks with Milan and has assured that he will respect his contract with Madrid. The Spanish giants signed Garcia from Rayo Vallecano in 2023 exercising their buy-back clause and penning a deal which runs until 2027.
Los Blancos are open to hearing offers for Mendy, but the club are aware that it will take time for the 30-year-old to organise a deal due to his age and injury problems.
