- Milan forward Leao diagnosed with a calf strain
- Officially ruled out of the opening الدوري الإيطالي مباراة
- Injury could force Milan coach to alter his plans
In a significant blow to Milan just before the start of the Serie A season, Leao suffered an injury during the كأس إيطاليا مباراة ضد باري. The forward had to be substituted in the first half after scoring the opening goal, having suffered a right calf strain. Medical tests conducted the following day confirmed the muscle injury. As a result, Milan announced that the Portuguese international will miss the first league match of the season against Cremonese. While the injury is not considered major, the club are taking a cautious approach to his recovery to prevent any further complications.
Leao’s injury presents a major problem for Milan and head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who was planning to rely on the forward’s dynamism and goal-scoring ability. Leao’s recovery time remains a day-to-day assessment, with the forward’s next target being the away match against Lecce on August 29. However, if he is not deemed fit by then, his next opportunity to return would be after the international break, when Milan face بولونيا on September 14.
In his absence, coach Allegri will need to find a suitable replacement. The prime candidate is Santiago Gimenez, who replaced Leao against Bari and provided an assist for Christian Pulisic. The Mexican forward is a strong option to fill the void and lead the line for the opening matches of the season.
The Italian club’s immediate challenge is to successfully navigate the first few matches of the season without their key offensive player. The team will need to rely on other attacking options to secure vital points, with the likes of Pulisic and Gimenez having to step up. The club’s medical staff will closely monitor Leao’s recovery to ensure he returns to full fitness without risking a more serious injury.
