- Tough debut season shaped Patino
- Targeting La Liga promotion push
Patino who was once tipped as Arsenal’s next academy star, has opened up on his progress after a testing debut campaign with Deportivo La Coruna. The 21-year-old struggled for consistency in Spain’s second tier last season, but hard work over the summer has seen him return physically stronger and mentally refreshed. After impressing in pre-season and starting in a win over Sporting Gijon, he looks ready to play a key role in Deportivo’s push for promotion.
Patino was once hailed as Gunners’ next great midfielder after scoring on his debut in 2021 in the كأس كاراباو quarter-final against سندرلاند, but his career has taken a different path following loan spells at Blackpool and سوانزي. His move to the Blue and Whites marked a fresh start, and while his first year in Spain was underwhelming, the English midfielder now feels settled. With Deportivo determined to return to La Liga, Patino’s development could be central to their ambitions and his own career revival.
“I just went to إنجلترا and thought about last season and worked hard physically and mentally,” he said. “I felt stronger again, stronger mentally and physically, and I wanted to be ready for the season. I thought about the fans and showing them I was ready.
“There’s a feeling in the locker room that we’re going to have a great season. Everyone is very confident. We want to reach the First Division, where this club belongs.”
The former Hale End product will aim to cement his starting role at Deportivo and help lead their charge for La Liga promotion. A strong season could put him back on the radar of top-flight clubs in Spain or even spark renewed interest from England.
