- Depay missed training on Wednesday
- Is entitled to receive millions in bonuses from Corinthians
- Has resumed training and will continue with the club
Despite missing Wednesday’s session, Depay made his way to the club’s training centre the following morning, where he met with Corinthians’ top brass. Following the talks, the club confirmed that the 30-year-old addressed his absence and reiterated his commitment to the team.
In an official statement designed to defuse mounting tensions, Corinthians said: “Corinthians informs that athlete Memphis Depay reported to CT Joaquim Grava this Thursday morning, where he met with Corinthians ‘ acting president, Osmar Stabile, football executive Fabinho Soldado, and coach Dorival Júnior. During the meeting, the athlete justified his absence and expressed his desire to remain at Corinthians. After taking the necessary measures, the presidency treats the matter as resolved.”
According to GE, Depay will be fined for his unexcused absence on Wednesday. The club has already settled part of the outstanding amount owed to Depay in a bid to restore good faith. The initial claim from the player included a subtle warning about the risk of him “not fulfilling obligations” if the issue wasn’t addressed soon. That statement raised alarm bells, prompting swift intervention to ensure the dispute did not escalate further.
Depay has made it clear that he remains committed to the club and with tensions now diffused, Corinthians are shifting their attention to on-field matters. The team is set to resume competitive action after a month-long break, hosting RB Bragantino at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday.
