- Scuffle with Pedro sparks uproar
- Babbel decries coach’s violent outburst
- PSG accused of harking back to darker times
After PSG’s 3-0 loss against Chelsea at the Club World Cup final, coach Luis Enrique was seen in a heated on-pitch scuffle with Chelsea’s Joao Pedro. The aggressive confrontation surprised many, and fans quickly began discussing the incident’s implications.
The former Barcelona coach has long been celebrated for his tactical acumen, but questions linger about his demeanour under pressure. PSG recently showcased a more intense, passionate style, yet this incident suggests the club may be reverting to a more controversial, feisty approach.
In a recent interview with ran ex-Germany international Babbel was asked for his reaction to the incident, and he didn’t hold back, saying: “It was disturbing for me, because that’s not appropriate. A coach has to keep a cool head and get his players out of this mess. And I found it very strange that he allowed himself to be so violent and then talked bullsh*t to explain his behaviour. We’ve all recently fallen in love with the way PSG plays football. But this was a relapse into the darker past. They presented themselves as truly sore losers.”
PSG and FIFA may now review the incident to determine whether disciplinary action is warranted. The Spaniard is expected to be hit with a ban.
