- إسبانيا beaten by إنجلترا in Euro 2025 final
- Tome replaced as Spain women’s boss
- Says she had been told she would stay on
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed Tome will depart when her contract expires at the end of August. Under-23 boss Sonia Bermudez will take over as manager of the women’s وطني team following their disappointing end to Euro 2025. Tome has now spoken out about the situation and says that a conversation with RFEF president Rafael Louzan had led her to believe she would be staying on in her role.
She told El Larguero: “No one told me I was fired. I found out I wouldn’t be leading the national team anymore through a message from my representative. Louzán told me that if we had a good Euro Cup, I would stay on. I’m disappointed because I think he went back on his promise to me.”
The Spain national team has seen plenty of changes in recent years. Tome replaced Jorge Vilda at the helm after he was sacked in the wake of the لويس Rubiales scandal at كأس العالم 2023. Tome raised eyebrows by then opting not to select Jenni Hermoso for her first squad but did recall Spain’s record goalscorer for the team’s successful Nations League campaign in 2023-24. However, Hermoso was controversially dropped again at the end of last year and wasleft out of the squad for Euro 2025. Spain did make it all the way to the final, before being beaten by England, but are still yet to win a بطولة أوروبا despite being blessed with an abundance of talented players.
Spain will begin life under Bermudez in October with home and away Nations League semi-final ties against السويد.
