- موناكو handed huge boost for UCL
- Pogba and Fati named in the squad for the competition
- Duo yet to make debuts for the French outfit
Monaco have been handed a huge boost ahead of the first phase of the دوري أبطال أوروبا as manager Adi Hutter has named star summer arrivals Pogba and Fati in the squad for the competition, despite neither player making their debut for the French side yet. However, the duo will be expected to play a key role after the first few games.
Pogba joined on a two-year deal as a free agent after serving his 18-month doping ban. The 2018 كأس العالم winner last played a competitive game two years ago in September 2023, when he was a يوفنتوس player. The Frenchman is working up his fitness and it is expected that he will be available for selection sometime in October.
On the other hand, Fati joined from برشلونة after injuries caught up to him in إسبانيا. The Barca academy graduate had a stellar introduction to the football world as he became one of Barca’s best players as a teenager. But, the 22-year-old has been unfortunate with injury struggles, which prompted the Catalans to offload him. Like Pogba, Fati, too, is yet to make his debut for Monaco. He will return to training immediately after the international break.
Back in August, Hutter clearly stated that Pogba and Fati will not be rushed into the team dynamics as their fitness remains the utmost priority. The duo missed the entire pre-season, but could end up playing pivotal roles this season.
Even though Pogba and Fati have been included in the Champions League squad, it is unlikely they will be named in the matchday squad for the first game of the league phase against كلوب بروج on September 17.
Monaco have had a decent start to the season as they have registered two wins and one loss from their opening three الدوري الفرنسي 1 games. They will take on Auxerre on September 13 before kicking off their Champions League campaign four days later.
