- Slot describes PL title win as a ‘struggle’
- ليفربول won 24-25 title by 10 points
- Reds have spent over £300m this summer
The Reds moved level with rivals Manchester متحد by clinching the 20th league title of their illustrious history in 2024-25, finishing comfortably ahead of second-placed أرسنال in Slot’s first season in charge of the Anfield club.
Liverpool have responded by spending over £300 million on a host of new signings, including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, while the Merseysiders continue to be linked with نيوكاسل يونايتد striker Alexander Isak despite having a £110m bid rejected in August. However Slot says it was necessary for his side to spend so heavily this summer, insisting it would be incorrect to “romanticise” too much about their historic title victory.
Referencing how difficult Liverpool found it last season, Slot said: “To romanticise last season as much as we do – and sometimes we make this mistake inside the building as well, I mean the players – is incorrect. Last season was, every single time, a struggle, most wins were only by one goal and we had to fight really hard for it.”
Liverpool have made the perfect start to their title defence with victories over بورنموث and Newcastle in their opening two league fixtures in 2025-26. New signing Ekitike has been in fine form following his move from آينتراخت فرانكفورت, scoring two goals and registering one assist across the two games.
Liverpool are aiming to make it three straight league wins when they take on title rivals Arsenal in a mouth-watering clash at Anfield on Sunday, before the international break commences.
