Newcastle are considering a move for Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini despite the defender suffering multiple injuries last term.

Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Eddie Howe wants reinforcements in his team’s defence and, according to Sky Sport Newcastle are interested in Scalvini. However, the Magpies are yet to table a formal offer, but are not willing to sell the 21-year-old centre-back. This reluctance from the outfit might escalate the asking price for the defender.

Scalvini has been on Newcastle’s radar even before he succumbed to a shoulder injury last season, which was not the first one of the season. He was out from June to November due to a cruciate ligament rupture, and featured in only eight fixtures last season – six in the Serie A, and one each in the Supercoppa Italiana and . In late January, he suffered a shoulder injury that ruled him out for the rest of the campaign. Despite his fitness struggles, the Magpies see the 21-year-old as an option to bolster their defensive third.

Scalvini was a part of Atalanta’s youth setup since 2015 and got promoted to the senior team in 2021. Since then, he has recorded 107 appearances for the Serie A club, and also won the in 2024.

Scalvini’s future is yet to be unfolded, as it depends on Newcastle’s urgency. Until then, he is an Atalanta player and will continue to feature for them.
