- Reyna completes move away from Dortmund
- Joins USMNT’s Scally at Gladbach
- Gladbach hails Reyna’s versatility
U.S. international Gio Reyna has completed a move from بوروسيا دورتموند to Borussia Mönchengladbach, linking up with USMNT teammate and close friend Joe Scally.
“Gio brings plenty of experience despite his age, along with significant potential,” Roland Virkus, Gladbach’s managing director for spor, told the club’s official website.“We’ve monitored him for some time and are convinced he has the qualities to help us. He knows the الدوري الألماني well and can play in several attacking roles.”
Per Florian Plettenberg, the transfer is reportedly worth up to $8.25 million (€7 million) with add-ons and includes a 15 percent sell-on clause. His Gladbach contract runs through 2028.
Reyna is happy to be joining Gladbach after spending the last six years with Dortmund.
“Borussia are a fantastic, big club,” Reyna the team’s website. “I’m delighted that the transfer has been able to be completed and am looking forward to getting to know everyone here, as well as tackling the upcoming games together.”
He also thanked Dortmund for this time there.
Reyna’s future had been uncertain for more than a year due to limited playing time at Dortmund, which also affected his role with the U.S. وطني team. He made 15 appearances for BVB last season and saw little action at the Club كأس العالم. The 22-year-old was previously recognized as U.S. Soccer’s Young Player of the Year in 2020 and has 32 senior caps with eight goals.
The move to Gladbach offers Reyna a chance to reignite his career, with USMNT teammate and former NYCFC academy colleague Joe Scally alongside him.
Gladbach face Hamburg SV Sunday, though it is unlikely Reyna will play in that match.
