Rolfo was a key player for during her four seasons in Catalunya, helping the club to win 11 major honours in that time, including two Champions League titles. Now, though, she is set for a new chapter in after joining Man Utd on a two-year contract, a deal which was announced on Friday.

Rolfo’s contract at Barca still had another year on it but both parties agreed a mutual termination earlier this summer, with the Spanish champions needing to make such decisions in order for the club to comply with financial regulations. Marc Skinner’s Man Utd have now benefited from that, with the 31-year-old to add incredible quality and winning experience to a team trying to bridge the gap to the elite in women’s football.

Speaking upon the announcement of the move, Rolfo said: “It’s really exciting to be joining Manchester , not just because of the size and history of the club, but also to become part of the journey the club is on in the women’s game. I have been fortunate to enjoy lots of success at Barcelona and other clubs I have played for, and now I want the same at .

“The is probably the strongest league in the world right now, so that was a big part of the appeal of coming here, as well as the chance to help the team establish itself in the Champions League. I can’t wait to work with Marc, his staff and my new team-mates and get started with this new adventure in my career.”

It is a timely addition for the Red Devils, with their season to begin in just 12 days’ time. Skinner’s side finished third in the WSL last year, meaning they have to start in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, and they’ve been given a tricky draw. United take on first, on August 27, with Hammarby, who reached the group stage last term, likely to await the winner three days’ later.

If United can get Rolfo on the pitch for those games, it would be a big boost to their chances of progressing to the Women’s Champions League group stage for the first time. She is their second signing of the summer, following the arrival of fellow international Julia Zigiotti Olme from .
