- Rodríguez confirmed Inter Miami’s interest
- Mascherano says he’s unaware of any ongoing talks
- The Uruguayan featured in América’s opening game
Brian Rodríguez’s days at Club América appear to be numbered – but his destination remains uncertain. While Inter Miami was long seen as the frontrunner to land the Uruguayan winger, a new contender has entered the race: Qatar’s Al Rayyan.
According to Italian outlet Sportitalia Al Rayyan has submitted a $7 million offer to América for Rodríguez’s transfer. Now, the ball is in Las Águilas’ court – and ultimately in the player’s hands, as he decides whether to pursue a new chapter in Qatar or wait to potentially join fellow Uruguayan Luis Suárez in MLS.

Rodríguez had already acknowledged Miami’s interest and hinted at other offers from Europe. Just days ago, his agent posted a cryptic Instagram story with a plane emoji and the U.S. flag, suggesting a move to the States was imminent.n
However, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano downplayed the rumors, stating, “I don’t know anything” when asked about potential negotiations between the Herons and América.n
There are also reports suggesting that Rodríguez’s next move could hinge heavily on the opinion of Marcelo Bielsa, head coach of the Uruguayan national team. With the 2026 World Cup less than a year away, Bielsa is believed to favor players competing at the highest level – which could influence Rodríguez to either remain in Mexico or pursue an opportunity in Europe, rather than accept a move to Qatar.n
Despite the swirling speculation, Rodríguez has remained fully involved with Club América. He featured in the club’s 1–1 draw with FC Juárez in Week 1 of the Apertura 2025 and is expected to play again this Wednesday against Tijuana in Week 2.
América also has a high-profile match coming up: the Campeón de Campeones clash against Toluca this Sunday in Los Angeles – a fixture Rodríguez could still be part of, unless his transfer is finalized in the coming days.
Mascherano and company will visit FC Cincinnati next Wednesday, aiming for a sixth-straight MLS win against one of the league’s top teams.
