The Spanish champions have been planning for life after Lewandowski and Sesko was identified by director Deco as an ideal replacement for the 36-year-old. Reports suggested that the Slovenian forward was a top target for Barca after the 2026 , but they were beaten to the signing by .

Barcelona have been plagued by financial issues for years, likely preventing them from moving for Sesko earlier and challenging the Red Devils this summer.
