- Jota and Silva killed in car crash
- Chelsea to make donation to their family
- Will use portion of Club World Cup bonuses
According to The Athletic, Chelsea have allocated a £11.4 million ($15.5m) fund to be equally distributed between the players who helped Enzo Maresca’s side win this summer’s Club World Cup. Moreover, the club and the players have decided to send an equal amount to Jota’s family, following the deaths of the Liverpool star and his brother Silva in July in a car crash.
The footballing world has been rocked by the death of brothers Jota and Silva. Liverpool recently unveiled plans for a memorial sculpture of the former at Anfield, with the Reds’ players set to wear a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets for the upcoming season. Like the Merseyside outfit, this is a touch of class by Chelsea.
A special Liverpool fan mosaic and a minute’s silence is planned for Slot’s team’s first game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday. The club have also retired the No.20 shirt in honour of Jota.
While Liverpool prepare for that emotional encounter with Bournemouth as they begin their Premier League title defence, Chelsea entertain London neighbours Crystal Palace two days later at Stamford Bridge.
