Musampa was detained by Dutch authorities on Tuesday after allegedly committing almost £100,000 in tax fraud, according to reports in the Netherlands via talkSPORT. The report states the Netherlands’ Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIDO) claim the 48-year-old has been accused of defrauding the authorities out of over €100,000 (£86,500/$117,462) after he had declared he was an overseas tax resident whilst working and receiving an income in the country.
The report also claims that a raid on Musampa’s home by the authorities saw documents and luxury watches seized. The Netherlands Under-21 international was reportedly released from custody on Wednesday afternoon.
Musampa spent one-and-a-half seasons on loan at City between 2005 and 2006 after joining from La Liga side Atletico Madrid. He made 45 appearances in all competitions for City, scoring four goals. Musampa is currently the assistant manager of his former club Ajax‘s reserve side.
City return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side will then get their Champions League campaign under way when they entertain Napoli on September 18.
