The giants, fresh from claiming the crown at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, made history in the States when becoming the first team to win the expanded Club title.

Enzo Maresca’s side stunned winners in the final, with Cole Palmer putting in another inspirational performance, and U.S. President Trump was among those in the crowd to watch an impressive 3-0 victory.

He was invited to hand out end of tournament awards and medals, with the ultimate prize passed over to captain Reece James. Rather than walk away after that presentation, Trump remained rooted to the spot and became caught up in wild celebrations.

Eric Trump says that is what Chelsea and FIFA wanted, telling the BBC: “Listen, he’s the Commander-in-Chief of the United States of America. The winning team invited him to the stage because they said it would be the greatest honor of their life if the president of the United States could present the Club World Cup trophy.

“And by the way, I was there, I was watching it. The place went crazy. And there’s no one that’s done more for sport than him.”

Despite Trump’s claims, Palmer admitted afterwards: “I knew he was going to be here but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy so I was a bit confused, yeah.” Marc Cucurella says he was “scared sh*tless” by Trump remaining on the stage.
