By scoring in each of his first three matches for Liverpool against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Newcastle, Ekitike became the first Reds player to achieve the feat since cult hero Sturridge in 2013. While he missed out on scoring against Arsenal last time out, the Frenchman did have a positive impact in his team’s victory.
His stellar form for the Reds has also earned him his maiden national team call-up during the September international break. The Frenchman credited his team-mates and coach for helping him to adjust to his new home.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the striker said: “I think I adapted well. Obviously I still have things to improve, but I think it was a good [start]. I feel good with the guys, they helped me to adapt here so obviously they make my football easier. And when you play with good players like this, you can improve and you can have success like that. The most important [thing] is to continue to be consistent.
“It’s good to be compared to Sturridge, I know he has been a great, great player here at Liverpool, so it’s good and I want to do my best to do better than him.”
Arne Slot’s side, who have maintained a 100 per cent win record in the Premier League this season, will next face Burnley in an away fixture on Sunday.
