- Isak wants Liverpool transfer
- Ready to leave Newcastle this summer
- Liverpool sent warning by Carragher
Isak is pushing for a move to Liverpool after seeing an initial £110 million ($148m)bid turned down. The Reds are expected to improve their offer despite a big-spending summer that has already seen players including Florian Wirtz, Emmanuel Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike arrive at Anfield.
Carragher has warned Liverpool that signing Isak does not mean they will run away with the Premier League title. The Reds were beaten by Crystal Palace in the Community Shield last out, leaving the former defender and television pundit to admit that Arne Slot must find the right balance at Anfield.
Asked if he thought that Liverpool would sign Isak he said, via the Independent: “Yeah, I think so, but I don’t get this narrative of Liverpool are going to run away with it. If you look at history, it could tell you that it’s not just about having the best players, it’s about having the best team, and sort of making that balance right, and at the weekend it didn’t quite look right.
“I think we will have a title race, and I think there’s a lot of talk. I think the great thing about football is what we actually saw on Sunday with Liverpool. It didn’t look right. It tells me it’s not just about spending lots of money and buying the best players, you’ve still got to manage that team and make it work and have a nice balance to it.”
Liverpool fans must wait and see if the Reds up their offer for Isak. In the meantime, the Reds begin the defence of their Premier League title on Friday night against Bournemouth at Anfield.
