- Man Utd set £50m price tag for Alejandro Garnacho
- Chelsea lead race for Argentine winger this summer
- Benjamin Sesko’s arrival pushes Garnacho closer to exit
Manchester United have lowered their asking price for Garnacho to £50 million ($67m) as per the BBC. The 21-year-old is expected to depart after being told by manager Ruben Amorim to find a new club. Garnacho has ruled out all options this summer except Chelsea and staying at Old Trafford. Additionally, The Athletic have reported that Chelsea have now stepped up talks for the Argentine winger
Garnacho’s playing time is likely to shrink at Manchester United if he stays put, following the Red Devils’ summer signing spree. United have already brought in Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, with a deal for Benjamin Sesko also nearly finalised. The arrival of new attacking talent puts Garnacho’s long-term prospects at the club in serious doubt.
Garnacho was among five players given a delayed return to pre-season training. Amorim’s call for him to leave was made publicly, suggesting the winger is not part of his future plans. Chelsea had registered interest earlier this summer and now appear to be Garnacho’s preferred destination.
The Argentine is waiting for Chelsea to approach United over a permanent transfer or a loan deal, with terms similar to those that were agreed in the Jadon Sancho deal last summer. With Sesko’s transfer nearly done, United are expected to accelerate outgoing deals, and Garnacho’s switch to Stamford Bridge could be finalised in the coming weeks.
