- Villa ready to bid for Asensio
- Spaniard has already agreed personal terms
- Unai Emery sees him as key attacking option
According to Sky Sport Villa have stepped up their pursuit of Asensio, with the club expected to table a €20 million (£17m/$22m) bid, including bonuses, to PSG this week. The 29-year-old winger has already agreed personal terms on a three-year deal and is keen on a return to Villa Park, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.
Financial Fair Play concerns had limited the Villans’ early summer moves, but the imminent €40m (£34m/$43m) sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle is set to free up funds for reinforcements. Unai Emery is a long-time admirer of Asensio, valuing his versatility and attacking threat. The Ligue 1 giants, meanwhile, are looking to trim their wage bill and are open to selling, despite coach Luis Enrique‘s good relationship with the player.
The former Real Madrid forward joined Villa on loan in January, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances across all competitions. He played a key role in the club’s push for European qualification and remains a popular figure among supporters. PSG are reportedly ready to accept a cut-price fee given he has just one year left on his contract.
Villa are expected to submit their first official bid in the coming days, with talks likely to progress quickly given all parties’ willingness to reach an agreement. If the deal goes through, Asensio could be unveiled later this week.
