- Juventus revive interest in Tonali
- Plan to use Vlahovic to tempt Newcastle
- Magpies set to lose Isak to Liverpool
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport the Old Lady are working on an ambitious move to bring Tonali back to Serie A. The plan involves offering Vlahovic to Newcastle, who are in the market for a new forward amid Alexander Isak’s expected move to Liverpool. Talks also include the possibility of Douglas Luiz or Nicolo Savona being part of the negotiations.
The Magpies value the 25-year-old highly after paying €70 million (£60m/$76m) for him and waiting through his 10-month suspension, but Juventus see him as the ideal player to fix their midfield. With preferred target Benjamin Sesko close to joining Manchester United and alternative option Darwin Nunez likely heading to Al-Hilal, Vlahovic could be an appealing option for the Magpies, especially as they prepare for next season’s Champions League.
The Bianconeri know Tonali will be hard to prise away, but they hope Newcastle’s need for a proven goalscorer will open the door. The Serie A side are willing to make a financial sacrifice to get the Italy international, and intermediaries have already offered the Serbian striker to Newcastle. While not a direct swap, the deal could involve player exchanges plus cash adjustments, reports Gazzetta.
Tonali, a boyhood Milan fan, became the first Italian to win the Carabao Cup with Newcastle last season. He’s been a long-term target for Juventus, with club legends and management alike pushing for his signing.
Negotiations are still at an early stage. The Magpies will first finalise Isak’s departure before deciding on their striker target. If they move for Vlahovic, Juventus are expected to step up efforts to bring Tonali back to Italy before the transfer window closes.
