The Blues were rocked by Colwill’s anterior cruciate ligament injury just a week before they kick off the 2025-26 campaign. The 22-year-old defender went under the knife and will miss at least the first half of the new season.

According to Fabrizio Romano despite Colwill’s injury blow, the Blues have no ’emergency plan’ to enter the transfer market and sign a replacement for the international. The club have full faith in the existing roster, which has been further bolstered with the arrival of Jorrel Hato from for €43m (£37.5m).

Chelsea have been one of the highest spenders in the transfer market as they have invested a lot of money to rebuild their squad and particularly add firepower to their attack with the signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

Enzo Maresca’s side will be back in action on Friday as they host in their first pre-season friendly.
